Longtime Bryant alderman Danny Steele is not seeking re-election this year for Ward 1, Position 2 and[more] Alan Kays is seeking the position.
Kays, 43, is currently the chairman of the Bryant Water/Waste Water Committee where he has served three years. He works for Flynco Inc., a commercial general contractor, as a project manager and estimator. He is also a United States Marine Corps combat veteran of the Persian Gulf War and is a graduate of the University of Arkansas-Little Rock with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Construction Engineering Technology.
He and his family have been in Bryant for nine years.
"My roots are planted firmly in Bryant," Kays said, "And it’s time to unite our city government and citizens and move forward in a positive manner. As I continue to serve our city, I want to spend the next two years seeing what I can do to help repair Bryant’s image. We need to restore our primary focus to our citizens, their well-being and the growth of Bryant, while investing in resources such as our senior citizens, our children, our schools and our parks."
Kays feels that he has an important perspective for Bryant’s water issues, stemming from his experience as chairman.
"We’ve come a long way," he said. "Our new water tower was just the beginning of insuring that Bryant residents’ water needs are met in years to come, but much work remains, and I also want to be a part of the dialogue if and when rate adjustments are made, to lessen the impact on our residents."
Kays also serves as a board member of Keep Bryant Beautiful, and served as the project manager for the Bryant Senior Center kitchen remodeling in 2011. He and his family currently attend Midtowne Church.
