LITTLE ROCK — Minki Kang earned State titles in two individual events, Chandler Reep picked up a medal, while Justin Combs and Scott Mead captured medals in diving to highlight the work of the Bryant Hornets at the Class 7A/6A State swimming and diving meet at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday.
In addition, Kang joined Andrew Ball, Trace Rhode and Ray Weldon on a medal-winning performance in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Hornets, despite a disqualification in the 200 medley relay, accumulated 126 points to finish eighth in the 32-team field, which included the competing teams of the 5A-1A division. Bentonville won the team title with 409 points. Little Rock Central was second with 260 followed by host Little Rock Catholic (234), Fort Smith Southside (181), Springdale Har-Ber (146), Rogers Heritage (135) and Conway (127).
Kang won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.35 and the 500 free in 4:38.89. In the 200 free relay, the Bryant quartet turned in a 1:37.20 to finish sixth.
Reep finished fifth in the 100-yard breast stroke, turning in a time of 1:03.46.
In the diving competition, Combs earned a score of 336.81 to finish fourth. Mead was sixth with a composite score of 279.27. Lucas Reitenger just missed joining them as a medalist. His 248.31 picked up eighth-place points.
Weldon earned points in two other events. He was 15th in the 100-yard backstroke, turning in a 1:03.43, and 16th in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:16.25.
Reep joined James Dellorto, Fonzee Bittle and Rhode to garner 15th-place points in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
