The Bryant Black Sox Junior American Legion team begins District tournament play at Sheridan on Friday, July 3, at 5 p.m. The opening opponent will be Hope.
Originally set for noon, the opening round of the bracket had to be adjusted because on the of original eight teams was shifted to the Benton District tournament when it came up a team short of a four-team bracket. Hot Springs Village, which was to be the opening-round opponent of the host Sheridan team, was moved to Benton.
The adjusted bracket in Sheridan will thus begin with a game between Little Rock Continental Express and Hot Springs Lakeside at 2:30 p.m. At 5, Bryant faces Hope and, at 6:30, Magnolia plays Pine Bluff Kell.[more]
On Saturday, the winner of the Continental-Lakeside game will play the winner of the Bryant-Hope game at 11 with the losers of those two games pairing off at 1:30. At 4, the loser of Friday's Magnolia-Pine Bluff game will play the loser of Saturday's first game. At 6:30, the winner of the Magnolia-Pine Bluff game will play at 6:30 against Sheridan.
The double-elimination tournament continues on Sunday with games at 2, 4, and 7. On Monday, the loser's bracket final will be at 5 with the survivor playing the winners bracket survivor at 8. An "if" game would be played at 7, pitting the last two teams in a winner-take-all finale.
The tourney will produce three teams for the State tournament: Sheridan, as the host of State, and two others.
The Sox come into their game with a 14-8-1 record. They played two of the teams in the District during the regular season, defeating Little Rock Express in two out of three meetings back in May and Lakeside in their second game of the season.
