RUSSELLVILLE — The Bryant Junior Lady Hornets had dominated the competition in every meet prior[more] to the Russellville Invitational, but Saturday their undefeated streak came to an end.
Lake Hamilton took the team title with 60 points with Bryant the runner-up with 68 points. Pulaski Academy was third with 126 points followed by Cabot (128) and LR Christian (137). There were 16 teams and 237 individual runners in the competition.
Bryant was led by eighth-grader Sidney Wilson who finished second overall with a time of 13:10. Hannah Shelby took 10th place with a time of 13:38 and Sarah Cowell was 12th with a time of 13:46.
Finishing out the scorers were Hadley Dickinson (22nd, 13:59) and Reagan Smith (24th, 14:03). Hailey Levinson (29th, 14:17) and Camryn Bolton (54th, 14:54) finished out the top seven.
“I thought Sidney Wilson ran strong today, but I was not happy with our overall team effort,” commented Lady Hornets coach Danny Westbrook. “We did not run aggressive. Basically we toured the course today and didn’t race. We are a much better team than what we showed today. In the caliber of competition we see, you better bring your “A” game every week, and we did not do that today.”
The Bryant teams travel to Fayetteville next Saturday for the annual Chile Pepper Cross County festival.
