Though they absorbed a second loss in a row after winning four out of five, the Bryant Lady Hornets freshman volleyball team had a bit of a bounce-back match against the Cabot White Lady Panthers at Bryant Middle School gym on Thursday night.
On Monday, they suffered a disappointing loss in straight sets at Benton. This time, the Lady Hornets took it to three before falling, 25-18, 22-25, 9-15.
“The girls played a lot better,” said Bryant coach Lawrence Jefferson. “We only had five service errors. Casey Welch and Truli Bates did a good job blocking.
“Cabot played well and out-played us in the last two sets,” he added. “But it was a good match of volleyball.”
Bates finished with four blocks and Welch had three for the Lady Hornets. Offensively, Welch led the team with five kills. Grace Sams, Camille Rawls and Grace Camferdam each added three kills. Bates and Ivory Russ came through with two apiece and Erin Thompson had one.
At the service line, Sams was good on all 14 of her serves. Ashley Davis had seven without an error. Cora Edwards led with two aces. Sams, Davis and Kiarra Beard each had one. Beard was good on 10 of her 11 serves.
Sams led with 14 digs. Edwards had 13, Beard 11, Davis 8 and Camferdam 5. Russ and Meredith Medford came up with four each.
As a team, the Lady Hornets only had six errors on serve-receive, as well.
They’ll return to action on Monday night when they host Lake Hamilton.
