CABOT — Eighth grader Jessica Butler, and freshmen Camryn Bolton and Carissa Colclasure earned top 30 medals as they led the Bryant Junior High Lady Hornets to a fourth-place finish in the team competition Saturday at the Wal-Mart Junior High cross country championship held Saturday.
Cabot won the meet with 25 points followed by Russellville (68), Heber Springs (88), Bryant (116), Conway (137), Lake Hamilton (141), and Batesville Southside (153). There were 148 individual runners in the race.
Butler paced Bryant with a 16th-place finish clocking in at 14:07. Bolton was 19th in 14:19 with Colclasure 29th in 14:49.
“Jessica Butler did a good job of racing up front,” stated Lady Hornets coach Danny Westbrook. “Camryn Bolton and Carissa Colclasure also had outstanding performances today.”
The rest of Bryant’s scorers were Lauren Hart (31st, 14:51) and Kaylin Watts (35th, 14:59).
Finishing out the top seven were Keeli Robertson (42nd, 15:26) and Whitney Baptiste (48th, 15:46).
“I was proud of the outstanding effort we showed today,” Westbrook said. “We were competing today without our top three ninth-graders who moved up to high school last week at the 7A-West Conference meet. I feel like with them in the mix we would have contended for the team title.”
The meet concluded the junior high season for Bryant.
“I want to commend our middle school coaches, Deanna Porter and Kayla White, for the awesome job they do with their respective groups,” Westbrook related. “They coach both boys and girls and they always have them ready to race on Saturdays.”
