HOT SPRINGS — The Bryant freshman boys track team earned their second win in a row Tuesday at[more] the Lakeside Relays in Hot Springs.
The Junior Hornets scored a total of 155 points to dominate the field, finishing 41 points ahead of runner-up White Hall.
Mar'Kevius Nelson won the high point award with a total of 35 points. Nelson won the triple jump with a leap of 39' .75", placed second in the long jump (18' 9"), tied for second in the high jump (5' 4"), placed fourth in the 100 meter dash (12.10), fifth in the 200 meter dash (24.9) and was part of the third-place 4×100 meter relay team with Brenden Young, Steven Murdock, and Clark Garland (45.81).
Earning first place finishes for the Junior Hornets were Justin Combs in the pole vault (10' 6"), Young in the 110 meter hurdles (16.08) and the 300 meter hurdles (43.63), Mark Winn in the 800 meter run (2:07.93), Drew Allen in the discus (130'), and the 4x800m relay team of Connor Wilson, Austin Masters, Dru Wen, and Mark Winn (9:19.58).
Also scoring were Dalton Davis in the 300-meter hurdles (third in 45.81) and the pole vault (fifth in 7' 0"), Wen in the 1600 meter run (second in 5:06.31), Wilson in the 1600 meter run (fifth in 5:10.49) and the 800 meter run (fourth in 2:17.27), Jim Dellorto in the 1600 meter run (sixth in 5:14.88), Nicholas Schmidt in the 800 meter run (eighth in 2:23.12), Garland in the 100 meter dash (sixth in 12.34) and the 200 meter dash (fourth in 24.53), Connor Chapdelaine in the discus (fifth at 116' 3"), Steven Murdock in the 400 meter dash (third in 55.30), and the 4×400 meter relay team of Murdock, Davis, Nic Townsend, and Young (third in 3:48.93).
"Once again everybody competed very hard,” noted freshman coach John Orr. “We knew that going into this meet without John Winn, who is recovering from a slight injury, that some others were going to have to step up and score points, and they really came through for us. Davis had a very strong showing in the 300 meter hurdles, and the discus throwers, Allen and Chapdelaine threw much better. “Mar'kevious continues to score lots of points for us and Brendon Young and Mark Winn continue to dominate their events."
The Junior Hornets will be in action again next week at Hot Spring on April 3 and Conway on April 5.
