CABOT — At the Walmart Junior High Cross Country Championship held at Cabot Saturday, the Bryant junior girls took runner-up honors in the team competition. Russellville won the team championship with 41 points. Bryant scored 53 points followed by Cabot (67), Conway (85), and Lake Hamilton (106). There were 145 total runners in the race.
Bryant was led by eighth-grader Bailey Brazil, who finished in 11th place with a time of 13:36. She was closely followed by two more eighth graders. Gianni Hulett finished in 12th place in 13:44 and Mary Catherine Selig was 13th place in 13:51. Finishing out the scoring five were freshmen Alyssa Rowland (20th,14:13) and Camryn Bolton (23rd,14:26).
Other junior girls who received top 30 medals were: Olivia Orr (25th, 14:29), Mika Johnson (26th,14:32), Carissa Colclasure (27th, 14:33), and Zhania Hall (30th, 14:37).
“I was extremely proud of our juior girls today,” said Bryant coach Danny Westbrook. “Before the race, I challenged them to go to the front at the start and maintain their position all the way to the finish, something we have not done well all season. I thought they did a great job of that. This was our best team finish of the year and we came close to winning it all.
“Coach Deanna Porter at Bryant Middle School and Coach Denise Smith at Bethel Middle School have done an awesome job this year getting our seventh and eighth graders ready to race,” he added. “Also, Coach Debbie Clark has been a huge asset with our freshman team.”
