‘Hour of Code’ kicks off Computer Science Education Week at Hill Farm Elementary tonight

Hill Farm Elementary is inviting students and parents to The Hour of Code on Monday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. The event will introduce computer science and share programming activities accessible to all ages.

More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code, part of Computer Science Education Week, which runs from Dec. 7-13. It’s the largest learning event in history.

This initiative is just one of the ways Bryant is teaching students critical 21st century skills.

“We are providing this opportunity to ensure that our students are future ready by creating technology of the future — not just consuming it,” said Michele Owen, organizer of the event.

State education leaders agree. Arkansas Commissioner of Education Johnny Key along with Assistant Commissioner Ivy Pfeffer and Director of Curriculum & Instruction Stacey Smith will attend in support of Hill Farm’s effort to introduce and encourage student involvement in coding activities.

Local officials, Mayor Jill Dabbs and Alderman Brenda Miller, will also learn coding as part of the computer science hour.
