CABOT — The Bryant Junior Hornets finished of their season with a resounding victory at the Cabot Walmart Junior High Championship meet, scoring a total of 24 points to earn a 49 point victory over runner-up Lake Hamilton (73 points). Ten teams and 190 runners completed the two-mile race. A total of 11 runners finished inside the top 20 for the Junior Hornets.
Leading the way for Bryant was Dawson Oakley, who placed second in a time of 11:16. Colby Harvey (third in 11:23), Chris Barrientos (fifth in 11:37), Henry Terry (sixth in 11:40), Ricky Barrientos (eighth in 11:42), Edgar Tejada (ninth in 11:43), Erik Gonzalez (13th in 11:55), Luis Lara (16th in 12:05), Uriel Velazquez (17th in 12:07), Patrick Dickinson (19th in 12:17), and Jacob Turner (20th in 12:18) rounded out the Jr. Hornets who placed in the top 20.
“That was a fantastic way to finish off the season,” said Bryant coach Steve Oury. “We took control of the race early and never let up. Dawson Oakley and Colby Harvey set the tone up near the front of the race, and a couple of eighth graders, Chris Barrientos and Henry Terry, did a great job of leading the way for our chase pack.
“Coach Deanna Porter at Bryant Middle School and Denise Smith of Bethel Middle School both did a wonderful job this season of training their athletes and having them in peak condition for this meet,” he added. “I also am very thankful for Coach Debbie Clark and Coach Caleb Parker, who have been a tremendous help with our freshmen athletes.”
