BENTON — The Bryant Hornets junior varsity team rallied from a 19-14 halftime deficit, shut out the Benton Panthers JV in the second half and forged a 34-19 win at new Panthers Stadium on a damp, chilly Monday night.
“The defense had several big stops in the second half,” related Hornets coach Clint Shadwick. “The secondary had several break-ups to stop drives.”
Michael Martindale rushed for three touchdowns for the Hornets, including one of 80 yards. Drew Alpe ran for a touchdown and quarterback Gunnar Burks added a 6-yard keeper for a score moments after he’d broken a 60-yard run.
“Offensively, we were able to run the ball,” Shadwick acknowledged. “It was a great game overall by the Hornets.”
The JV team is 5-1-1 this season going into its final game at home against Cabot on Monday, Oct. 28.
