The Bryant Hornets junior varsity soccer team started and finished the evening against the[more] Lake Hamilton Wolves Friday night. The varsity team saw some action in between and the Wolves still haven’t scored.
In the JV match, Bryant won 3-0 then the varsity team rolled to a 5-0 lead before giving way to the JV to finish things out as the varsity improved to 12-1-1 overall and 7-0 in the South Conference. The JV remained unbeaten and unscored upon through eight matches.
The Hornets travel to El Dorado on Tuesday.
Bryce Denker had a hat trick for the Hornets. Dylan Wolf and Jeremy Anderson had goals as well in the varsity win.
“I thought we played well,” said Hornets coach Jason Hay. “Lake Hamilton’s pretty fast. They’re athletic. The play the ball in the air a lot. Our back line did a good job fielding all the balls in the air. Coach (Brett) Haugh has been working on them in practice, working the high balls, over their head, chesting them, settling them and clearing them out. You can tell, just by the way we look on the field, that it’s been helping them.”
Wolf got the scoring started at less than 10 minutes into the contest. Justin Travis assisted. Anderson’s goal came at the 25:09 mark with Josh Lowery setting him up.
Denker’s first goal came on a PK at 17:15 and, just a few seconds later, he took a feed from Travis and knocked it through to make it 4-0.
That held until the half. Wolf assisted on Denker’s third score at 17:21 of the second half. That’s when the JV took over.
In their match earlier, Evan Caddy had two goals, one on a penalty kick and the other off an assist from Jack Buck. In between, Anderson drilled one from 35 yards out.
