LITTLE ROCK — Competing with six of their 7A-Central Conference rivals along with five other quality programs, the Bryant Hornets swim team finished[more] ninth at the 2011 Central Arkansas Season-ending Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 29. The meet, hosted by Little Rock Catholic at the UALR Natatorium where the Bryant team practiced before the opening of the indoor pool at Bishop Park, was won by the host team with 379 points.
Conway was second with 310 followed by Little Rock Central (263), Little Rock Parkview (182), North Little Rock (169), Magnolia (159), Arkansas Baptist (154), Pulaski Academy (138), Bryant (129), Cabot (129), Central Arkansas Christian (26) and Russellville (17).
Bryant’s top finish was turned in by Jordan Combs in the one-meter dive. He earned a score of 104.20 to garner fourth.
Casey Ball had a pair of top 10 finishes. He was seventh in the 100 yard back stroke, finishing with a time of 1:09.06. He was eighth in the 200 freestyle, an event in which four Hornets scored points. Ball turned in a 2:13.28 clocking. Ross Grant was 11th in 2:19.86, Nick Hoffpauir 13th in 2:25.25, and Spencer Qualls 16th in 2:40.73.
Grant was also 10th in the 100 free, turning in a time of 1:00.33. Hoffpauir was 16th at 1:03.81.
The Hornets were fourth in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Ball, Seth Hoffmans, Combs and Grant combined to finish in 4:05.56. The 200 meter relay team of Ball, Andrew Dull, Dylan Rogers and Hayden Stewart finished ninth in 1:59.94.
In other individual performances, Qualls was 11th in the 500 free with a time of 7:20.00; Dull was 12th in the 100 breast stroke in 1:17.16; and Rogers was 12th in the 50 free at 25.44.
In the 200 individual medley, Combs was 12th (2:30.85) and Stewart 14th (2:37.60).
The Hornets will return to competition this Saturday, Feb. 5, at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia.
