LITTLE ROCK — A 13-2 run to start it and a 20-1 blitz to put it out of reach — the Bryant Hornets junior varsity completed its 2009-10 season with a 65-48 win over the Little Rock Central Tigers JV on Friday night.
L.J. McLaughlin scored 19 points, Quinton Motto 15 to lead the Hornets. Kyle Nossaman added 9, Houston Garner 8, Logan Trudell 7, Brantley Cozart 5 and Cameron Wood 2.[more]
McLaughlin scored 9 of his points during the opening salvo that also included a layup by Cozart and baseline jumper by Motto.
Bryant led 16-10 before Nossaman beat the buzzer ended the first quarter with a running jumper.
In the second quarter, the Tigers put together their own surge which eventually produced a 29-27 lead. But Nossaman converted both ends of a one-and-on and Garner drove for a layup to get the Hornets back on top. The half ended, however, with the score tied at 31.
It was 36-36 when the Hornets started their game-breaking run, sparked by 3-pointers from Trudell and McLaughlin. After McLaughlin added a free throw, a Central turnover led to a layup for Trudell. Garner grabbed the rebound off a Central miss and got the ball ahead to Trudell who launched a lob pass to McLaughlin for another lay-in.
And when Garner was fouled going to the rack moments later, his free throws made it 49-36.
Central managed a free throw with :52.9 left in the third quarter but Nossaman hit one in response that gave the Hornets a 50-37 lead going into the fourth period.
The Tigers started jacking 3’s and the Hornets got some long rebounds that led to layups, three in a row, in fact, by Motto that completed the 20-1 stretch.
The resulting 19-point lead was Bryant’s largest of the game. The Tigers could get no closer than 15 in the final four minutes of the game.
