C.J. Rainey hit two free throws with :02.6 left in the game to lift the Bryant Hornets junior varsity team to[more] a 45-43 win over the Watson Chapel Wildcats JV on Tuesday night.
Rainey’s winning points came moments after Luke Rayburn gave the Hornets the opportunity to win by taking a charge with the game tied at 43. Bryant had tied the game with about 30 seconds left.
“We got off to a great start then Watson Chapel’s athletic ability took over,” related Hornets coach Mike Abrahamson. “They held an 11-point lead in the third quarter.”
Rainey led the Hornets’ rally with three 3-pointers in the final period.
“We started pressing and made a comeback,” Abrahamson noted.
Rainey finished with 15 points. Greyson Giles added 10 with Anthony Black pitching in with 8. Rayborn and Jalen Hewitt had 3 each with Zach Cambron, Brian Reed and Mitch Scoggins scoring 2 apiece.
The Hornets JV, now 2-0, plays again on Monday, Dec. 5, at home against Benton then on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Sheridan.
