RUSSELLVILLE — Brantley Cozart and Kyle Nossaman hit key free throws in the final 30 seconds to help the Bryant Hornets junior varsity team hold off a late rally by the Russellville Cyclones JV team, in a 30-25 victory Friday night.
Bryant led by as much as 9 in the game and still held an 8-point edge going into the final minute. Russellville trimmed the margin to 26-23 before Cozart came through with two free throws with :26.3 showing. Nossaman then hauled down the rebound after a Cyclones miss and was fouled. He knocked down both ends of the bonus opportunity to make it 30-23. A last-second layup by Russellville set the final score.[more]
Bryant jumped out to a 9-1 lead by the end of the first quarter but was clinging to a 12-9 advantage at the intermission. Free throws by L.J. McLaughlin started the second-half scoring. Quinton Motto posted up for a bucket and, moments later, fed McLaughlin for a layup that make it 18-9.
The Hornets led 20-14 going into the fourth quarter but had their 9-point lead back when Nossaman nailed a 3 to start the final period.
Motto led Bryant with 8 points. Nossaman finished with 5, McLaughlin and Cozart 4 each. Houston Garner and Logan Trudell contributed 3 apiece.
