CONWAY — Cameron Price singled home two runs to highlight a three-run top of the fifth and Dylan Cross, the third Bryant pitcher, worked out of a jam in the bottom of the inning as the Hornets won the junior varsity game at Conway on Thursday night.[more]
Starter Tyler Nelson shut out Conway on one hit — a bunt single — over the first three innings. But the Hornets were unable to get on the board as well.
After the Hornets loaded the bases in the fourth on an infield single by Landon Pickett, a hit batsman (Price) and a walk to Nelson and failed to score, Conway eked out a run when Jordan Taylor relieved for Bryant. With one out, a walk and a double produced the run but Taylor picked the runner off second then ended the inning with a strikeout.
The Hornets’ fifth-inning uprising began with a one-out walk to Hayden Daniel. He stole second then took third on a wild pitch as Tyler Brown drew a walk. Lucas Castleberry followed with a bunt, popping it up only to have a diving attempt at a catch fail as Daniel scored to tie the game 1-1.
A walk to Pickett loaded the bases for Price who slapped a grounder through the right side to drive home Brown and Castleberry.
Cross relieved in the bottom of the inning and surrendered a one-out walk. A pair of passed balls allowed the runner to reach third. Cross got the second out on strikes but a grounder inside the line to right for a double plated the run and put the potential tying run at second. But Cross left him there with another strikeout to end the game.
