TUCSON, Ariz. — Bryant Hornets senior shortstop Trevor Ezell has been named to the 2014 18th annual Louisville Slugger Pre-Season high school All-America baseball team. The team, which is selected by the staff of Collegiate Baseball newspaper, includes only one other player from Arkansas, Kyle Pate, a left-handed pitcher and outfielder for the Fayetteville Bulldogs. Andy Pagnozzi, another pitcher at Fayetteville, received honorable mention.
Ezell has signed to play college ball at Division I Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo., next fall. He and teammate Nate Rutherford (now at Arkansas Tech University) were named second team All-America by Louisville Slugger following the 2013 season.
As a junior last spring, Ezell hit .512 over 33 games for the Hornets also leading the team in hits (49), runs (42), at bats (96), RBIs (30), doubles (10), triples (4), homers (3) and stolen bases (29).
Over the summer, he paced the Bryant Black Sox Senior American Legion team with a .401 average, 57 hits, 45 runs scored and 33 RBIs to go with 11 triples, six doubles and a homer. He walked 28 times and stole 10 bases.
Ezell and the Hornets open the 2014 season with a benefit game against Hot Springs Lakeside on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
