The Bryant Hornets B team picked up two more wins on Saturday, April 4, defeating Lake Hamilton, 6-1, and Benton to improve to 9-1 on the season.
"Dylan Cross picked up the W with his first outing since fracturing his hand," reported Coach Mark Jelks. "He did an excellent job on the mound. His fastball had good velocity and curveball had a lot of movement.
"Dylan was also sick but I didn't find out until after the second inning," Jelks said. "Matt Neal came in and did a good job finishing out the game for us.
"Offensively, it was a good team effort," he continued. "We hit the ball with runners in scoring position, moved runners around, bunting and being aggressive on the bases."[more]
Jordan Taylor started on the mound in the game against Benton and went the distance.
"He did a great job working the batters, changing speeds well and hitting his spots," Jelks said. "Overall, the entire coaching staff was very pleased with the wins and the effort by our young men.
"We were frustrated the first cople of innings because we had several chances to take control the game early," he continued. "In the first inning, we loaded the bases with one out but only scored one run. In the second inning, we had the bases loaded with no outs and we only scored two. We couldn't seem to get that big base hit to the outfield to blow the game open. We had a team meeting in the third about that and I thought the kids responded well. You could see the energy level and focus go up. After the third, we were very pleased with the desire and focus of our young men."
The B team was set to play Watson Chapel's B team today in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
