After having home matches postponed by inclement weather two or three times, the Bryant Lady Hornets soccer team finally got to play at Bryant Stadium Wednesday night in their ninth outing of the season. And not surprisingly, they looked right at home with a 7-0 mercy-rule win over the South Conference rival Texarkana Lady Razorbacks.
Caroline Campbell turned in a hat trick while Kara Taylor, Anna Lowery, Hailey Levinson and Ashlie Sparks each had a goal along the way. Hadley Dickinson contributed two assists.
The win improved the Lady Hornets to 3-0 in league play, 7-0-2 overall going into a non-conference match tonight at home against North Little Rock. On Friday, they visit Lake Hamilton for a conference contest.
“It was good to finally get our first home game in,” acknowledged Bryant coach Julie Long. “The girls were excited to be playing at home. They played well. We moved the ball well and had good spacing. I was pleased overall with the effort.
“We have to get where we are maintaining our composure a little more in front of the goal and finishing the good opportunities that we are creating,” she related, referring to her team’s 33 shot attempts. “Tonight should be a good game to see where we are at.”
On Wednesday, the Lady Hornets built a 5-0 lead by halftime. Lowery assisted on Campbell’s first goal in the first minute of the match. Less than two minutes had come off the clock when Taylor found the range off the first assist by Dickinson.
It stayed 2-0 until the 26:57 mark when Dickinson fed Lowery for the third goal of the half. Levinson found the range with 21:12 on the clock. Taylor Matthews earned the assist.
Campbell finished the half with her second goal. It came at 12:21 off a feed from Jacie McMahan. She then started the second-half scoring as well to make it a mercy-rule game (halving the time left in the contest). Allison Hughes picked up the assist on the hat-trick goal.
Sparks capped off the scoring off a feed from Whitney Brown at 14:30.
