Lefties Ty Harris and Evan Lee combined on a five-inning no-hitter as the Bryant Hornets junior[more] varsity team slipped past the El Dorado Wildcats JV, 4-0, Friday night at Bryant High School Field.
Over the first four frames, Harris fanned six and walked two. Lee worked around a walk in the fifth to finish it off.
The Hornets were only able to manage two hits but benefitted from nine walks. Lee had an RBI double and Connor Tatum singled in a run.
Bryant took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Jason Hastings walked and advanced to second on a passed ball. Nick Kehrees came in to run for him and he advanced to third on a groundout to second by Trey Breeding. Drew Tipton drew a free pass then Austin Caldwell picked up the RBI with a sacrifice fly.
A one-out walk to Dalton Holt initiated a two-run second. After Holt advanced to third, Tatum singled him in. Dylan Hurt was hit by a pitch and, after Hastings walked, a passed ball allowed Hurt to score, making it 3-0.
The Hornets capped off the scoring in the home third when Caldwell walked and scored all the way from first on Lee’s double to right.
Harris retired the first five batters of the game. He pitched around a two-out walk in the second and another in the third. After a 1-2-3 fourth, Lee relieved. He issued a pass to start the fifth but the Hornets turned a doubleplay and Lee ended it with a strikeout.
The Hornets JV, now 14-1, is set to return to action for a final game today against Camden Fairview after the 1 p.m. varsity contest.
