Hear the words “Girl Scouts,” and you may think of camp almost as quickly as you think of[more] Thin Mints. For many, talk of Girl Scout Camp brings memories of s’mores after dinner, sing-a-longs around a campfire, and bonds forged in summer activities like canoeing, horseback riding, or swimming with your fellow Girl Scout sisters. Girl Scout camps offer tremendous opportunities for girls to learn self-reliance and confidence. Camp is a great place for a girl to unlock her potential and discover the world and the great outdoor adventures that await her.
Girl Scouts – Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas has eight properties, nestled in the tree lines, hills, and scenery of some of the most beautiful areas of the council’s jurisdiction. But the reality of bringing camp magic to the girls translates into a labor of love to keep the sites maintained and repaired. The very things that draw folks to the council’s camp properties – the remote beauty, the sense of escape into nature – means hard work to keep up with the toll that Mother Nature takes on the constantly-aging properties.
Girl Scouts – Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas has formed a new Tents and Trails Committee to assist the council in maintaining these beloved properties. The Tents and Trails Committee seeks to engage volunteers who are interested in making an impact in their local areas and helping preserve these treasured camps for many, many years to come. The committee will work with the council property staff to provide community support to accomplish a number of maintenance and upgrades at the properties. The Tents and Trails Committee will typically meet once in the fall, spring and winter of each year. Anyone who has a love of the outdoors, an interest in helping girls develop leadership skills, or skills in building trades or land management is invited to become a member of the Tents and Trails Committee.
