Spring sports in Bryant get back into full swing this evening.
It’ll be a full campus at Bryant High School tonight as the baseball, softball and soccer teams host conference rivals. In addition, the varsity and freshmen track teams are scheduled to compete on the road.
Off campus, the Bryant Athletic Association’s pre-season baseball tournament continues after getting under way on Saturday. The annual Opening Ceremonies for the regular season are scheduled for Saturday, April 10.
The Bryant Softball Association’s ASA 12-and-under pre-season Classic was held March 20-22 with six teams in a double-elimination tournament. Thunder 97 beat out the Ferndale Fireballs for the championship. Prime Time was third.[more]
In addition, the BSA’s Bryant Classic for teams in the 16-and-under age group down to 6-and-under commences in mid-April.
At the high school, the undefeated Lady Hornets softball team hosts Mount St. Mary Academy of Little Rock with designs on improving to 3-0 in the 7A-Central Conference going into a break over the Easter holiday. The Belles have played one league game so far, losing a wild 17-14 contest to Conway on Friday, March 19.
The Hornets baseball team, fresh from a 3-1 run in Destin, Fla., return to league action at home against the always tough Little Rock Catholic Rockets. The Hornets are 14-1 overall and 1-0 in the 7A-Central. They defeated Little Rock Central 6-3 for their league win. The Rockets lost their conference opener to Conway, 16-6.
Baseball and softball varsity games begin at 5 p.m., followed by JV contests.
At Bryant Stadium, the soccer teams will host league matches with their respective counterparts from Cabot. The Lady Hornets will be trying to bounce back after a pair of tough losses, 1-0, to Russellville and, 2-0, to Conway. They’re 5-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Meanwhile, the Hornets hope to build on their win at Conway, a first for the program. They’re 6-4 and 3-2.
A JV girls game was scheduled for 4 with the varsity girls playing at 5:15 followed by the boys at 7.
The Bryant High School track teams will be in Cabot after both the Lady Hornets and Hornets captured team championships in dramatic fashion at the annual Hornet Classic on March 18. Field events at Cabot begin at 3:30.
The freshman teams are scheduled to run at the Ram Junior Relays at Hot Springs Lakeside.
