The Bryant Lady Hornets freshman team bounced back from a disappointing loss to Benton on Thursday with a 43-32 win over[more] the Cabot North Lady Panthers on Saturday.
The game was originally scheduled for Monday, Jan. 10, but was postponed to Saturday due to snow.
It was the Lady Hornets’ first conference victory. Now 10-8 overall, they’re 1-1 in league play with their final non-conference contest set for tonight at home against Lake Hamilton.
The Lady Hornets include Aubree Allen, Jessica Alliston, Andrea Buford, Ashlee Caton, Caylin Choate, Dezarea Duckworth, Kaitlyn Greer, Keedy Harrison, Taylor Matthews, Dee-Dee Mosby, Melinda Murdock, Amber Newman, Destiny Nichols, Brittany Privett, Erica Smith, Rori Whittaker and Alex Wright.
Allen, after a frustrating game against Benton, erupted for 18 points, matching Duckworth for the team-high total in the contest. Whittaker, Choate and Nichols had 2 each. Alliston added a free throw.
“We did a much better job of executing in the first half this game,” commented coach Nathan Castaldi. “It was a little different for the girls playing Saturday morning, but they were able to make the adjustment and played well.”
Bryant broke to a 14-5 lead by the end of the first quarter. The advantage was 23-7 at the half and 37-19 going into the fourth quarter.
“We had the lead up to 20 at one time so I was a little disappointed that we let them back in the game late, but it was good to get a win,” Castaldi said. “We have talked all year about winning our conference home games so I was glad we were able to do that.”
On Thursday, the Lady Hornets visit Conway White, the only league team to beat them in the non-conference meetings between the teams earlier in the year. This time, it will count in the standings.
