Haney Raney won the 800 and 1600 meter runs while Keeley Wilson took top honors in the high jump as the Bryant Lady Hornets freshman track team captured the team title at the annual Junior Hornet Relays at Bryant Stadium on Monday.
Bryant finished with 110 points. Conway White was second with 95 followed by Magnet Cove with 92 and Conway Blue with 81.
The Bryant Blue Lady Hornets eighth grade squad from Bethel Middle School, led by Dezarea Duckworth’s first-place finish in the 100 meter dash, finished fifth with 39 points. Bryant White of Bryant Middle School was 14th in the 18-team competition.[more]
Raney won the 800 meter run in a time of 2:41.11. Her winning time in the 1600 was 5:58.07. She also contributed a leg of the Lady Hornets’ 4×800 meter relay team which finished second. The quartet of Raney, Abigail Sturgeon, Tara Shewmaker and Jade Hampton combined on a time of 11:32.31.
Wilson, meanwhile, was the only high jump competitor to clear 4-8. She also scored in the hurdles. In the 100 meters, she was seventh in 19.67 and in the 300, she was seventh in 57.74. Hampton was second in the 300 with a time of 55.38.
Bryant’s Savanna Reed had the best pole vault height at 6-6.
The Lady Hornets garnered a number of second-place finishes including a pair by Kaylee Dove in the shot and discus. Her shot throw went 30 feet, 7 inches, just short of the winning throw of 32-10 by Cathryn Herron of Jessieville. In the discus, Dove’s toss flew 79 feet, second only to the throw of 80 feet, 7 ¾ inches by Magnet Cove eighth grader Sady Martin.
Alexis Royal earned a second-place finish in the triple jump, covering 30 feet, 8 ½ inches. She was also fifth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.87 and seventh in the 100 in a time of 14.30. Sarah Evans was third in the 100 in 14.08 for Bryant and seventh in the 200 at 28.93.
That duo also contributed to Bryant’s relays. In the 4×100, they teamed with Lauren Stiles and Wilson to finish second in a time of 54.28. In the 4×400, Stiles, Evans, Sturgeon and Royal turned in a 4:45.16 clocking to finish third.
Duckworth’s winning time in the 100 was 13.88. She was also second in the 200 with a time of 28.28 with teammate Leah Ward eighth in 29.02. Duckworth also added points from a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 28 feet, 5 inches.
Bryant Blue also picked up points from Ward in the long jump where her leap of 14 feet, 3 ½ inches took fifth and in the 100 hurdles where she was eighth in 20.00. Paola Marrero who was sixth in the 300 hurdles in a time of 57.74 and Marley Adams who was seventh in the 800 with a time of 2:51.69.
In the relays, Bryant Blue scored in the 4×800 when the quartet of Adams, Marrero, Samantha Macchi and Megan Hodge took fourth in a time of 11:55.43. In the 4×100, Ward, Kaci Mann, Caroline Wright and Duckworth combined on a 58.16, which gained sixth-place points.
Bryant White scored in four events. Mekaylah Muhammad accounted for two of those. She was sixth in the long jumper at 14 feet, 1 ½ inches and eighth in the triple jump covering 27 feet, 4 ½ inches.
Kaitlyn Greer’s shot put of 28-6 added sixth-place points for Bryant White and the 4×800 team of Mikayla Douglas, Rachel Bacon, Shelby Woodall and Callie Schalk finished seventh in a time of 12:25.07.
For Bauxite, eighth grader Jessica Sorvillo won the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.35. She also combined with Wright, Tackett and Eisenhauer to finish eighth in the 4×400 relay. In the 4×800, Sorvillo, Natilie Wright, Allison Tackett and Hannah Willis finished fifth in a time of 11:56.64.
Kaylin Cooper finished third in the discus with a throw of 65-7 while Tackett also scored in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 2 inches for the Lady Miners.
