CABOT — The Bryant Lady Hornets freshman volleyball team bounced back from a disappointing loss at Conway in their previous outing to slip past Cabot South on Thursday, 25-9, 27-25.
The win was coupled with a 25-21, 25-8 win by Bryant Blue in an eighth grade contest.
Bryant’s freshmen return to action at a tournament at Conway on Saturday then visits Mount St. Mary’s in a return to action in the South Division of the Central Arkansas Junior High Conference on Monday, Sept. 21.
Bryant Blue returns to action against Rose City at the Bethel Middle School gym on Monday.
A seventh grade jamboree featuring both Bryant teams will be played on Saturday at the Bethel gym.
The Bryant freshmen eased to their win in the first game of their match with Cabot. Hannah Rice punctuated the victory by serving up an ace for the 20th point then closing out the game.[more]
In the second game, the Lady Hornets raced to another big lead with McKenzie Adams getting on a service roll, accounting for points 8 through 15.
Head coach Monica Parish began to filter in her reserves and the Cabot first-teamers rallied but Bryant held on for the 27-25 win.
The Lady Hornets are now 5-2 overall and in South Division play.
“I was glad I could play some of the other girls,” Parish commented.
In the eighth grade win, Bryant Blue was up 23-12 in the first game before Cabot surged to a 9-0 run that made it a nail-biter. But Meagan Lincoln stepped in to serve and closed out the game on the final two points.
In the second game, Breanna Sanders served eight points in a row as Bryant jumped out to a 9-0 start. It was 15-6 when Lincoln took over in service and put together a 7-0 run that put the Lady Hornets on the cusp of victory.
Head coach Melissa Bragg noted that Erica Smith had two blocks, Dezarea Duckworth and Nicole Guyett one each.
