The Bryant Hornets freshman team kept the Little Rock Catholic Rockets from scoring in the first quarter and held them to 1 point in the third on the way to a 32-7 win in Central Arkansas Junior High Conference action on Thursday night at the Bryant Middle School gym.
The victory ended a three-game skid for the Hornets who improved to 5-4 overall and 2-3 in league play going into Monday’s trip to Russellville.
Brayden Godwin had 8 points for Bryant with Aiden Adams, Jalen Montgomery and Hayden Schrader adding 6 apiece.
“After struggling the last few games, the guys really responded in practice the last couple of days and got after it,” said Hornets coach Tyler Posey. “We worked really hard on our defense and our rebounding and it really showed tonight as we made it tough to get open shots and really limited second-chance opportunities.
“Offensively, we really got shots we wanted with our high-low looks and good inside-out play, hitting five 3-point baskets,” he added.
The Hornets held a 5-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. It was 12-3 at the half then 23-4 by the end of the third quarter.
