SHERIDAN — The Bryant Hornets freshman track team won all three relays and six individual events, while placing three scorers in four as they dominated the 15-team Junior Stinger Relays at Sheridan High School Tuesday.
Chris Barrientos and Sam Perryman each won two events along the way as the Hornets amassed 213 points Robey North of Pine Bluff was a distant second with 71 points. Little Rock Parkview was third (57) followed by White Hall (53) and Little Rock McClellan (49).
Barrientos (2:15.87), Chris Morgan (2:17.21) and Joshua Nelson (2:18.64) swept the top three spots in the 800-meter run. In the 1600, Barrientos won in 4:50.30. Garett Webb of Ouachita was second but Morgan was third in 5:21.50 and Bryant’s Matthew O’Gary took fourth in 5:21.90.
Perryman won the pole vault by clearing 9’6” in the fewest attempts. He also took top honors in the 300 hurdles with a time of 45.53, edging Robey’s Daizhu Thomas (46.20). Nick Fowler picked up fourth-place points in the event, turning in a 47.31.
Perryman was second to Thomas in the 110 hurdles, finishing 18.53.
Individual firsts were also turned in by John Burton in the shot and Andrew Hayes in the triple jump.
Hayes coverted 39’1” to edge Parkview’s Jadis Smith (39’0”). Malek Holman was fourth for the Hornets at 37’0”.
Burton’s heave of 45’1.5” defeated second-place Isaiah Aikens of McClellan (41’3”) in the shot. Michael Chatmon was fourth at 40’7”.
In the discus, Burton’s 120’8” was second only to Jabin Gulley of White Hall (122’1”). Chatmon was third at 117’8”.
In the relays, Hayes teamed up with Holman, Josh Robinson and Randy Thomas to win the 4×100 in 45.62. Jacksonville was second at 47.45.
It was Hayes, Robinson, Randy Thomas and Hunter Ulmer in the 4×400, winning in a time of 3:52.21. Parkview was second at 4:00.36.
In the 4×800, Jake Dreher, Ben Sellers, Isaac Silos and Kevin Weng turned in a 9:47.86 to win. Watson Chapel was second in 9:58.05.
Bryant had three finishers in the scoring in the high jump and the long jump. In the former, Robinson was second at 5’8” behind only Gulley’s 6’0”. Randy Thomas was fourth at 5’6” and Holman was fifth at 5’2”.
In the latter, Cody Conrad led the Hornets’ contingent. He covered 18’0”, barely short of the 18’0.5” turned in by McClellan’s Brennan Brown. Hayes was seventh at 17’3.25” and Robinson eighth at 17’0.5”.
Ulmer was second and Hayes third in the 400-meter run. Gulley won in 56.18. Ulmer finished in 56.66 and Hayes turned in a 56.83.
Robinson and Thomas both scored in the 100 and 200. Robinson was third in the 200 in 24.19 with Thomas fourth in 24.27. In the 100, Thomas finished third in 12.08 and Robinson was fifth in 12.14.
The Bryant freshman teams will run in their final regular-season meet on Thursday, April 14. The Central Arkansas Junior High Conference meet is Thursday, Aug. 21, at Lake Hamilton.
