RUSSELLVILLE — Kaitnyn Weng and Ashton Inman combined for 21 points to lead the Bryant Lady Hornets freshman team to a 29-15 win over the Russellville Lady Whirlwinds on Monday night.
Kristyn Weng added 6 points and Jaiyah Jackson had 2 as the Lady Hornets improved to 2-4 in Central Arkansas Junior High Conference play going into Thursday’s game at Cabot South.
The Lady Hornets jumped to an 11-3 lead by the end of the first quarter.
“Ashton came out very aggressive in the first quarter, scoring 8 of her 10 points,” said Lady Hornets coach Nathan Castaldi. “That really set the tone for our team and we continued to extend the lead after that. When Russellville started to worry about Ashton driving, Kristyn hit two 3’s in the second quarter.”
The Lady Hornets led 21-10 at the half and 25-12 going into the fourth quarter.
“Our defensive effort was good all game,” Castaldi said. “We had a few off-the-ball issues with girls a little slow to help but, overall, I was proud of our defense.
“We’re starting to string together longer periods of good basketball compared to a few weeks ago,” he noted. “Hopefully, this will continue on Thursday.”
