The Bryant Lady Hornets freshman team earned its third win in the last four matches with a 25-18, 25-23 victory over the Cabot Red Lady Panthers on Monday night at the Bryant Middle School gym.
“We played better tonight especially on serve receive with only one bad pass on serve receive,” said Bryant coach Lawrence Jefferson. “Our passing was much better tonight overall. Teams that pass well tend to play well.”
Erin Thompson and Grace Sams were good on nine service receptions. Cora Edwards had seven without an error.
The Lady Hornets also came through with 16 kills at the net including six by Sams and four by Camille Rawls. Ivory Russ had three with Edwards, Truli Bates and Grace Camferdam contributing one each. Bates also had two blocks.
“Grace Sams and Camille Rawles hit really well tonight,” Jefferson said. “Grace Camferdam’s lone kill came to end the match.”
It was a dramatic attack with Bryant clinging to a one-point edge at the end of the second set.
Meredith Medford had six assists and Lexi Brown five for the Lady Hornets.
Kiarra Beard had 12 serves without an error. She and Edwards each served up an ace with Thompson and Sams coming through with two aces apiece.
Defensively, Sams had 13 digs. Beard came up with 12 and Thompson 10.
“Overall, it was a good job by the team,” Jefferson said.
The Lady Hornets will try to continue to their recent success when they return to action this Thursday at home against Conway White. It’s a chance for them to avenge their tough 20-25, 23-25 loss to the Lady Cats in the finals of the Silver bracket of the Russellville Tournament last Saturday.
