CONWAY — In a match that went to the wire, the Bryant Lady Hornets freshman team emerged with a 25-23, 19-25, 15-13 win over the Conway White Lady Wampus Cats on Monday night to wrap up the regular season. Both teams will compete in the Central Arkansas Junior High Conference Tournament in Bryant this Saturday.
The Lady Hornets will probably be seeded fifth in the 10-team conference. Conway White will probably be eighth.
“The girls played well in a hard-fought win,” said Bryant coach Lawrence Jefferson. “Conway White played well too.
“Truli Bates and Casey Welch really stepped up on our blocking and hitting,” he noted. Kiarra Beard, Erin Thompson, Cora Edwards and Ashley Davis did a great job passing for the match. They passed really well on serve-receive. Our serves were good with only three serving errors for the match.
“I’m proud of the girls for being able to finish the match,” the coach said. “Conway had the momentum after winning the second set. The third set was back and forth until the end and the girls answered the call to win.”
Bates had seven kills in the match to go with 10 solo blocks. Welch finished with four kills and two solo blocks. Grace Sams and Brooke Abney added three blocks each. Beard, Thompson, Kalina Weaver, Lexi Brown, Camille Rawls and Grace Camferdam pitched in with a kill apiece.
Weaver set for seven assists, Brown five and Meredith Medford three. Edwards and Welch also had an assist each.
Beard got in all 14 of her serves with two aces. Edwards and Sams had two aces each and Weaver one. Sams was good 10 of 11 serves while Brown got in 9 of 10 and Thompson got in 8 of 9.
Sams led the team with 16 digs. Thompson added 11, Brown eight, Edwards seven and Beard six.
