Bryant freshman Brenden Everhart won number one singles matches and the doubles team of Zach Gaines and Wilson Hatcher won as well at both of the BHS tennis meets last week.
In addition, Kristen Walter won a singles match to highlight play for the Lady Hornets.
Walter’s win came on Tuesday, Sept. 23 against North Little Rock at Burns Park. It was an 8-3 victory over Erin Arendt.
Everhart eased past Sam Fletcher of North Little Rock, 8-0, in the boys singles while Gaines and Hatcher prevailed 8-1 over Alex Heffington and Evan Emmerling.
Bryant also picked up a sin from Tyler Melton in an abbreviated No. 3 singles match, 6-0, over Evan Dowers.
Also for the boys, Nick Schmidt absorbed a 3-8 loss to North Little Rock’s Chase Bevans. In a battle in the No. 2 doubles match, Bryant’s Walker Creighton and Hayden Brown were outlasted by NLR’s Gray Huckaby and Christian Chung.
For the girls, Megan Ivie was topped by North Little Rock’s Hali Wilder, 2-8, at No. 1 singles. In doubles, Bryant’s Stephanie Smith and Feniece Boone lost a tough match with Anna Clair Fields and Julia Sullivan, 5-8, at No. 1. The No. 2 match between Taylor Scifres and Jayda Allen and North Little Rock’s Mason Harmon and Kaycee Gateley ended in an 8-8 draw when time ran out.
Against White Hall at Pine Bluff Country Club on Thursday, Sept. 25, Everhart blanked Etan Bridgeforth, 8-0, while Gaines and Hatcher dismissed Austin Smith and Jacob Bowman, 8-2.
At No. 2 doubles, Creighton and Brown prevailed, 8-1, over White Hall’s Daniel Heikes and Griffin Haynes.
In singles matches, Melton fell 5-8 to Garrett Reed and Schmidt was edged by Austin Sims, 7-9. At No. 4 singles, Bryant’s Brady Moore absorbed a 1-6 loss to Bowman.
In addition, White Hall won two unseeded matches. Heikes defeated Landon Ho, 6-2, and Haynes bested Matt Burhuis, 6-2.
White Hall swept the girls matches. In singles, Martha Pierce won 8-2 over Ivie; Erin Davis edged Walter, 8-5; and Loveleen Kaur won over Allen, 6-0.
In doubles matches, Smith and Boone fell to Kathleen Brideforth, 2-8; while Katelin Cotton and Haylee Scott came up on the short end of a 3-8 decision against White Hall’s Erica Smith and Sarah Poindexter.
The BHS team was set to play at Tyndall Park in Benton today then wrap up the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 2, at Van Buren.
