Wednesday, Feb. 2, was a proud day for[more] Bryant Hornets football coach Paul Calley who saw four members of his 2010 7A/6A-Central Conference championship team sign letters of intent to continue their education and their football careers in college.
Three of them — center Justin Rauch, running back Stephen Clark, and defensive tackle Matt Jones — signed with his alma mater, Henderson State University in Arkadelphia. The other, Josh Hampton, named recently the VYPE magazine Defensive Player of the Year in the state, earned a Division I scholarship at Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo.
“It’s a great day,” Calley acknowledged. “Anytime that you have four student athletes that are going to continue their career at the next level, it says a lot about the kind of young men that we’re developing.”
Bryant High School principal Jay Pickering noted that all four of the young men had not only excelled on the field but in the classroom with GPA’s all over 3.0 in the fall when their workload on the field and in the weight room required lots of time and focus as well.
The foursome was part of a senior class that contributed to more wins in their three years as Hornets (25) than any other.
As the day goes along, BryantDaily.com will post stories about each of the signees along with pictures of their big day.
