Members of the Arkansas Legislature presented reward money to four Bryant schools this week.
On Tuesday, June 2, Rep. Julie Mayberry, Rep. Kim Hammer, and Rep. Lanny Fite presented a check for $49,348.87 to Bryant Middle School and principal Angie Stewart. Bryant Middle School was designated as one of the top 20 percent of schools in Arkansas. School Board member Scott Hart attended the presentation.
On Wednesday, June 3, Rep. Fite presented a check in the amount of $84,497.93 to principal Todd Sellers and Bethel Middle School, which is in the top 10 percent of state schools.
On Thursday, June 4, Fite presented a check in the amount of $28,087.89 to principal Mark Scarlett and Salem Elementary, a school listed in the top 20 percent.
On Thursday, June 4, Rep. Andy Davis presented principal Russ Sherrill and Springhill Elementary with a check worth $27,972.71 in honor of the school’s high test scores and achievement growth earning them a spot in the top 20 percent.
The funds were disbursed earlier this year. The schools used the money to purchase technology and school supplies for students and classrooms.
In the 2014-15 school year, 215 public schools were recognized as high performing and gaining schools through the Arkansas School Recognition and Reward program.
