You might want to plan to go on a diet on July 31.
Because on July 30 this year’s Taste of Bryant foods include prime rib, chicken alfredo, smoked sausage, BBQ, catfish, boiled shrimp, hushpuppies, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas, chicken tenders and nuggets, sliders, steak, ribs, pizza, salads, finger foods, cheese dip and chips, guacamole, banana pudding, donut holes, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, “delectable bites”, Danish crepes, Captain Crunch Cinnabon, 15 flavors of frozen yogurt, ice cream, hand shaken flavored teas, and coffee and iced coffees.
The 16th annual Taste of Bryant is presented by Landers Auto of Saline County, Brooke Andrews State Farm, Baxley Penfield Moudy Realtors and Landers Auto Sales on Thursday, July 30, at The Center at Bishop, 6401 Boone Road. Silent auction begins at 6 p.m., but food is not served until 6:30.
The theme is “Back to School.”
In addition to the food, silent auction items can be donated by anyone who is wishing to draw attention to a product or service their company offers.
“It’s instant awareness, said chairperson Kim Leech. “Some businesses and organizations are really clever in what they donate or how they tie their donations to the theme. A visual item or a timely idea sparks attention to a new thing that they are doing.”
Among the items already donated are a silver Pandora Bracelet by Baker’s Fine Jewelry, a pair of lamps by Ashley Furniture, a handcrafted Adirondack chair by Mr. Fix It, a dorm move-in basket from First Electric Cooperative, a backpack and supplies for school from The Gann Agency.
Individuals may also donate to the silent auction. Community supporters who are not businesses have donated all manner of items in the past – everything from practical items like coupons for eating out to luxury items like artwork, jewelry and fur coats.
Silent auction items can be brought to the Bryant Area Chamber of Commerce, 109 Roya Lane.
“The silent auction is great … especially if you are a new business or you have added some new product or service that makes you stand out from the competitors,” Leech said.
“It’s just a fun, no hassles event,” noted Rae Ann Fields, Executive Director of the Bryant Area Chamber of Commerce. “You come when you want. Eat what you want. Leave when you want.”
The Taste of Bryant is a family-friendly event. There is a kid’s area with the floor covered in paper. Crayons and chalk are available for their artistic expression. They also can participate in a drawing for children’s items. That area is sponsored by Chiropractic Health Center.
Prepaid tickets to the event remain $15 for adults and $5 for children ages 7 to 12. Kids 6 and under eat free. Tickets for adults go up to $25 at the door that night and tickets are not sold the day of the event (Thursday, July 30) as the Chamber office is closed for preparation for the event that evening. New this year is a senior ticket for $12 if you are 65 or older. Call 847-4702 for more information.
