The Aether I launch was a success for the Hornet Engineering Department. The satellite launched on Friday, Feb. 14, and it was able to take photographs of cloud formations, a ring of blue atmosphere, and black space.
The GPS did not function as it was originally intended to so therefore real-time tracking was not available while the satellite was in space. However, a resident of Marianna witnessed the satellite’s fall to earth and followed the instructions on the outside of the Aether I and immediately called the Hornet Engineering department so that they could retrieve the device.
It was determined that the capsule reached roughly 80,000 feet and it traveled approximately 100 miles across Arkansas in just an hour and 20 minutes.
