In an effort to raise funds to support over 400 kids who attend the Boys and Girls Club of Bryant, Board members are planning the second annual Fish Fry on Friday, Oct.29 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Bryant Middle School Cafeteria.
“If you’re already planning to come to the Bryant vs. North Little Rock football game on Friday, come a little early and join us for some delicious food and support a wonderful organization that is truly making a difference in the lives of children in our community,” said Christina Long, Board President.[more]
The event will be catered by Dorey’s Catfish. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for kids and can be purchased by calling (501) 847-7275 Ext. 450. They are also available at the Bryant Chamber of Commerce and the Big Red in Bryant. The price includes four pieces of catfish or chicken, hush puppies, cole slaw, french fries and a drink. Plates can be picked up to go, or you can sit down and eat in cafeteria. Tickets will be sold at the door as well.
“Bryant is one of the top 100 communities in America,” said Laryssa Calley, Boys and Girls Club of Bryant Board member. “The success of our Boys and Girls Club will ensure our community continues to move in a positive direction. Please, do your part by supporting our fundraising efforts and join us for some fish, football and great fellowship!”
The Boys and Girls Club of Bryant depends on grants and donations to support the many programs and services tailored to promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, value and belonging.
“An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision,” said Suzanne Passmore, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Bryant. “It’s important for our young people to know that someone cares about them.
The Club reaches kids by offering a variety of programs taught by Club staff, peer leaders, parents and community representatives. SMART Girls is a health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem program for girls. Topics discussed deal with eating disorders, internet safety, self esteem, personal values and dating relationships, media influence and body image. Passport to Manhood is another program that promotes and teaches responsibility while reinforcing positive behavior.
“Kids have a lot to deal with at such a young age,” said Passmore. “We are here to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.”
