With just three games left in the regular season, the Bryant Hornets freshman team and the[more] North Little Rock Junior Charging Wildcats will meet tonight at North Little Rock East with first place on the line.
The evening will begin with an eighth grade game between the Bryant Blue Hornets of Bethel Middle School and Ridge Road Rams at 5 p.m. The freshman girls game will begin around 6 with the freshman boys squaring off around 7.
The Hornets come in as the lone remaining unbeaten team in the Central Arkansas Junior High Conference, improving to 5-0 with a tense 39-31 win in overtime at Cabot South on Thursday, Jan. 26. The Hornets are riding a nine-game win streak. They’re 15-4 overall.
One of those losses was to North Little Rock on Dec. 8 in a non-conference meeting at the BMS gym, 42-35.
The Junior Wildcats are alone in second place in the conference at 4-1, coming off a 66-30 thumping of Conway Blue, which came into that game tied for second.
Meanwhile, the Lady Hornets face another tough assignment with the high-scoring Junior Lady Cats who come in off a wild one with Conway Blue, outgunning the Lady Wampus Kittens 67-62 in overtime.
It’s part of a stretch of games in which the Lady Hornets play four of the top teams in the league over the final five games of the regular season including Cabot South, tied with North Little Rock for third place in the league, last Thursday and unbeaten Conway White last Monday.
Bryant will host the post-season conference tournament starting Monday, Jan. 9.
