LITTLE ROCK — With a 14-2 run to start the game, the Bryant White Hornets eighth grade team[more] of Bryant Middle School rolled to the championship of the Anthony School Classic on Thursday night. A balanced scoring attack led to a 48-21 win over the Arkansas Baptist Eagles.
Brandon Harris finished with 9 points, Hayden Knowles 6. Romen Martin and Tyler Kelly added 5 each with Marvin Moody, Jonathan Allen, John Winston and Kyle Sahr each pitching in with 4.
The Hornets led 28-10 at the half then had another dominating quarter to open the second half, building the advantage up to 37-13.
“I am really proud of the way our guys played,” said Hornets coach Heath Long. “They are not selfish as evidenced by the fact that we scored 48 points without anyone reaching double figures.
“We moved the ball really well and had a lot of success getting Romen the ball in the middle of their press,” he noted. “Once he got it, he made good decisions with the basketball that lead to baskets for other guys.
“Defensively, we had great effort and managed to deflect a lot of passes, which made it very difficult for them to run their offense,” the coach said. “This was our only chance to play for a championship this year and I am glad that we made the most of it.”
Bryant White improved to 3-0 on the season with the victory. The team returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Cabot South.
