The Bryant White Hornets seventh grade team of Bryant Middle School broke out to a 9-3 lead in the first quarter and never looked back on the way to a 39-15 win over the rival Bryant Blue Hornets of Bethel Middle School on Thursday night.
Ahmad Adams and Darrick Rose led White with 8 points each. Keyshawn Scott added 6 with O.J. Newburn and Logan New pitching in with 4 apiece.
For Blue, Jonathan Hall led with 3 points and, according to coach Dominic Lincoln, came through with several rebounds.
“Bryant Middle did a good job being physical with us and we had a hard time adjusting to that style of play,” said Lincoln. “We didn’t have too much scoring.
“Will Hope played a very physical game and rebounded the ball extremely well,” the Bethel coach continued. “Christian Cain brought us a sense of toughness and energy that we will need everybody to have.
“But it’s a two-year process with these seventh graders and they will continue to improve,” he concluded.
Bryant White extended their early lead to 16-7 by halftime and held a 30-11 advantage going into the fourth quarter.
“Overall we played pretty well,” said Bryant Middle coach Heath Long. “There are things that we still need to work on but this team is starting to show flashes of the team they can be. I was proud of the fact that we scored 39 points with no player in double figures. These guys are not selfish and will share the ball.
“Bethel has a solid club and we look forward to playing them again in January and February,” he added.
Now 2-2, Bryant White is set to head to Sheridan for a pair of games on Saturday, taking on Sheridan at noon and Avilla Christian at 1:30 p.m. Bryant Blue is off until after the holidays, returning with A and B games against Bryant White on Jan. 8, 2015.
