TUCSON, Ariz. — Bryant Hornets senior pitcher Nate Rutherford and junior shortstop Trevor Ezell[more] have been named to the second team of the Louisville Slugger All-American team.
Unofficially, Rutherford was 9-3 on the season with a 1.13 earned run average for the Hornets, who finished 27-6 and reached the Class 7A State semifinals. In 74 1/3 innings, the right-hander allowed 52 hits, walked just 18 and struck out 32.
Ezell led the team in hitting with a .512 average (49 of 96). He hit three of the team’s four home runs on the season, led the team in doubles with 10 and triples with four. He drove in 30, scored 42 times and swiped a whopping 29 bags, all team highs.
This is the 17th year Louisville Slugger has sponsored the High School All-America teams. Players are nominated by their high school coach and the staff of Collegiate Baseball selects the team.
