LITTLE ROCK — Despite a 21-point performance by Cameron Murray, the Bryant White Hornets eighth grade team[more] of Bryant Middle School was unable to overcome scoring droughts in the second and fourth quarters as the Episcopal Collegiate Wildcats of Little Rock prevailed 37-28 on Friday night.
The Wildcats thus captured the championship of the Panther Pride Classic at The Anthony School.
“We played another team that likes to press a lot,” noted Hornets coach Heath Long. “And, while we did the best job we’ve done all week as far as handling their pressure, we needed to create more scoring opportunities from our press offense.
“Cameron Murray had a big night for us, and I can see that we are coming along as a team,” added the coach. “We came up a little short in the end, but I’m proud of my guys.”
Bryant White held a 12-10 edge going into the second quarter but was held to 2 points the rest of the half and trailed 20-14 at the break.
In the third quarter, they again outscored the Wildcats 12-10 to cut the margin to 30-26 but Episcopal held the Hornets to 2 points again in the final period to put the game away.
The Hornets are set to return to action tonight at Benton.
