Entries are already coming in for Bryant’s 2nd Annual Christmas Parade of Lights sponsored by First Security Bank on Thursday night Dec. 3,. The Bryant Area Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas Committee is encouraging even more to enter.
“We were surprised with the number of entries we had at the last minute last year and we want to encourage people to sign up early so they are eligible for prizes this year,” said co-chairperson Carla Harris of First Security Bank.
Last year more than 60 entries made a rousing first ever parade.[more]
All parties interested in the parade may enter a lighted float or entry which will begin with line-up at Bryant Middle School and proceed down Sullivan to Reynolds Road. Floats, displays, riders and walkers will then turn right and end at the First Southern Baptist Church.
“It will be important to light the float as it will be an evening parade. However, you can achieve lighting through battery-operated floodlights or solar powered spotlights if a generator is not available to you,” said co-chairperson Carla Harris. “Consider glow sticks or glow in the dark jewelry for the float riders or any walkers so they will show up, too.”
Line up for the parade will be at 6 p.m. at the parking lot nearest the football stadium at the Middle School. As several basketball games will be held in the Middle School Gym that night, floats will line up on the stadium side of the parking lot between the stadium and the gym. The entries will be assigned a number and the numbers will be reflected on signs indicating chutes for line up for each ten in sequence. The Bryant 2nd Annual Christmas Parade of Lights will start at 7 p.m.
All churches, school organizations, businesses and community organizations are invited to participate. A $5 entry fee is charged to cover the administration of the event. A trophy will be given for the Grand Prize. Prizes will be awarded for the first, second and third place floats. You may nominate a grand marshall for the parade at any First Security Bank location in Saline County.
“There will be a party AFTER the parade at Midtown Bryant. Last year we had confusion. Some thought the parade would go to Midtown but, instead, the Midtown Bryant group will throw a party including Santa Visits, choirs, Christmas movies, etc.,” noted Harris.
