NORTH LITTLE ROCK— Pulaski Technical College recorded a 13.8 percent increase in enrollment for the spring 2010 semester over this time last year, marking a record number of students for the state’s largest two-year college.
Pulaski Tech had 11,163 students enrolled in college-credit classes as of Tuesday, Jan. 26, the 11th day of class for the spring semester. All enrollment numbers are preliminary as of the end of the 11th day of classes, the official day on which reports are based, and subject to further verification before submission to the Arkansas Department of Higher Education.[more]
The final report will be submitted to the state by Feb. 10.
Preliminary counts show an increase of 1,356 students from spring 2009. Enrollment has grown 8.8 percent since fall 2009 when the college enrolled 10,258 students.
“The economy is continuing to be a big part in our enrollment drive,” said Dr. Dan F. Bakke, college president. “We are seeing a tremendous number of people affected by area layoffs and plant closures who have returned to college to get the degrees and credentials that will make them more marketable as workers when the economy brightens.”
Of this spring’s enrollment:
• 66 percent are female and 34 percent are male.
• The student body racial make-up is 51 percent black, 44 percent white, 3 percent Hispanic, and 2 percent other.
Pulaski Technical College is a comprehensive, two-year college that serves the educational needs of central Arkansas through more than 90 occupational/technical degree and certificate programs, a university-transfer curriculum and specialized programs for business and industry.
