Early voting begins on Tuesday, Aug. 3 for the FairPlex issue in Saline County, which includes a proposed one-cent sales tax increase to fund construction of a new county facility at the existing fairgrounds.
The date of the election is Aug. 10, but voters can vote early. The First Pentecostal Church on Highway 5 is the early voting station for all of Bryant. It will be open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On election day, all polling sites in Saline County will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.[more]
"The Bryant Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, after hearing from many of you about your thoughts on the FairPlex tax vote, urges everyone to get out and vote," said Bryant Chamber of Commerce executive director Rae Ann Fields. "Our response from members was a split decision. So, we know how very important every person's vote will be."
Bryant Alderman Danny Steele sees the vote as an important aspect to life in Saline County.
"I really do not have a dog in that hunt," Steele said in an interview with BryantDaily.com. "I have thought about it some, and I can not see any long-term benefit to Bryant. I have started to see some opposition to the proposal with signs in yards. I really think that citizens are not in the mood for any more taxes at this time, no matter what benefit might be derived from a tax."
