Bryant’s Zach Byars carded a three-over par 75 to earn individual medalist honors at a three-team match at Hurricane Country Club on Thursday.
The Hornets finished with a team score of 333. Benton won team honors with a 323. Texarkana was third at 334. Benton’s Braden Smith and Texarkana’s Patrick Flanagan were two strokes off Byars’ pace.
Tanner Caton turned in a round of 78 for the Hornets. Landon Allison and Schott Schmidt each shot 84 to complete the team’s scoring quartet.
Byars finished the front nine with a one-under 35 including birdies on the par 4 first hole, the par 3 fourth and the par 5 seventh. He started the back nine with a birdie on the par 4 10th but three bogeys after that along with a double-bogey on the par 4 13th brought him back to the pack a bit.
Caton’s round was highlighted by birdies on the par 4 fifth and the par 5 16th.
Also for the Hornets, Drew Brown turned in around of 90. Brendon Morton finished at 96 with Drew Darbonne and Bryce Smith at 97.
The Hornets’ next match is set for Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Diamond Head Country Club in Hot Springs.
