The Bryant Hornets baseball team will be the number two seed from the West for the Class 7A[more] State Tournament next week in Rogers. That's because the Fayetteville Bulldogs swept the Bentonville Tigers Wednesday night to complete an unbeaten run through the 7A/6A-West Conference.
With a first-round bye, the Hornets will open State Tournament play on Friday, May 10, at 2:30 p.m., against the winner of a first-round game on Thursday between the third-seeded team from the Central Conference and the sixth-seeded team from the West. Though those seeds are still unsettled, going into the week it could be Little Rock Catholic or Cabot from the Central and Van Buren or Rogers Heritage from the West.
The Hornets are scheduled to host El Dorado in their final conference game of the season this Friday, then play a tune-up game against Camden Fairview on Saturday at 1 p.m. If rain prevents Friday's game, it would be moved to Saturday and the Hornets might play a final tune-up early next week against Lake Hamilton.
Fayetteville and Bentonville (which will probably be the No. 3 seed) were originally scheduled to play on Thursday but the game was moved up a day due to the threat of thundershowers on Thursday.
