HOT SPRINGS — The defense of the Bryant Hornets’ junior varsity team came up big twice in the closing[more] moments to preserve a 21-20 win over the Hot Springs Lakeside Rams JV on Monday night.
The Hornets held a 21-14 lead late in the game when Lakeside drove for a touchdown to make it 21-20. The Rams went for the win with a 2-point conversion attempt but Noah Varner stepped up and made a stop to foil the effort to keep Bryant ahead.
Lakeside followed up with an onside kick but the Hornets recovered. Moments later, however, Bryant fumbled and the Rams came up with the ball at the Hornets’ 40.
Again, the Bryant defense made a stand. Lakeside got close enough to try a last-season field goal but it missed as time expired.
Kylon Boyle rushed for a touchdown and quarterback Madison Schroeder threw touchdowns passes to Austin Vail and Dalton Griesmer to account for the Hornets’ scoring.
Defensively, Amador Gaspar forced a fumble and Hunter Fugitt recovered it. Steven Murdock came up with an interception for the Hornets.
The win improved the Bryant JV to 5-1 on the season. The team will host Benton on Monday, Oct. 15.
