Bryant's Aaron Davidson pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Giants against the Royals in the half-season Rookie level Arizona League Friday night.[more]
The right-hander entered the game with his team leading 4-1 through 5 1/2 innings. He struck out Geoffrey Baldwin, the first batter he faced, on a called third strike but then gave up a single to right to Lane Adams. With Yunior Figueroa at the plate, Adams stole second. But Davidson fanned Figueroa swinging at a pitch in the dirt for the second out of the inning. Santos Cabrera followed with a single to left. Adams tried to score on the play but Giants left fielder Ryan Scoma threw him out at the plate to end the inning.
Davidson was one of six pitchers the Giants used in the 5-1 win. He earned his first hold.
With the scoreless inning, he lowered his earned run average to 5.09, which is inflated by a couple of early-season games in which he struggled. But it also extended Davidson's scoreless inning streak to 13 1/3. In his last 15 1/3 innings over six outings, he has not walked a batter while striking out 13.
