Two minutes into the second quarter, the Bryant White Hornets eighth grade team of Bryant Middle School trailed[more] the Conway White eighth grade team just 8-6. Jake Scoggins had scored the first 4 points in the opening quarter and, with Conway trying to add to an 8-4 lead, he’d blocked a shot that led to teammate Kameron Guillory getting fouled. Guillory converted both shots to make it 8-6.
Unfortunately for the Hornets that was the last scoring they’d do the rest of the half. Conway put together a 10-0 run that extended to 12-0 with the first basket of the third quarter and a 20-6 lead.
Consecutive baskets by Simeon Watson cut the lead to 10 but that was as close as the Hornets could get the rest of the way as they suffered a 35-23 loss.
Watson finished with a team-high 9 points. Scoggins and Cameron Murray added 6 points each and Guillory had 2.
Conway White led 26-14 going into the fourth quarter and eventually led by as much as 17, 31-14, before Watson hit a 3. But the teams pretty much traded points after that.
The Hornets play at Central Arkansas Christian on Saturday, Jan. 28, before closing out the season against Bryant Blue on Thursday, Feb. 2.
